Christine "Crystin" Evans

Crystin is the deuteragonist of Dancing with the Dead. She is a banshee who initiates into the E.V.S with her partner Edgar. Crystin’s status as a banshee makes her a person of interest to the E.V.S., member and councilman alike.

History

Crystin originates from Llanberis, across the border in Northern Wales. Her past as a human, the circumstances surrounding her death and what brought her to Yorkshire remain unknown.

In September of 1974, she met Edgar in rural North Yorkshire. He accidentally discovered her resting in a lake, and after an unknown period of time, the two fell in love.

Personality

Crystin exists with a deep, all-encompassing melancholy. By default, she exists in a state of brooding silence, rarely speaking to anyone. She observes others from afar, only speaking if she’s pressed to or if she feels Edgar is being menaced.

Crystin, under her shyness, possesses a repressed anger. She demonstrates a willingness for violence as early as Episode 1, with Edgar stating that she would have been more than happy to kill Angus and Sheamus. Yet her capacity for violence does not outshine her loyalty. While she struggles to advocate for herself, she is fiercely protective of the few she can trust. She scolds Claudius; one of Woodsgrave’s representatives, for speaking poorly of Clifford. She also becomes terse when Horace presses Edgar for information in Episode 13.

Crystin’s fear of people goes beyond the typical reaches of shyness, and into people-related trauma. While the cause of this remains unknown, she’s not so quick to drown in it now that she has company. In Episode 13, she expresses a willingness to have comforting things around her, a promising sign of her personal growth. Edgar does not see her as a lost cause, and neither should we.

Appearance

Crystin resembles a young woman in her early twenties’. She has wavy hair that trails down to her hips at the longest. She has a long straight nose, bright glowing eyes and a defined jawline. Her eyes can disappear under her hair, or the dark aura that settles on her face at all times. Her body is of above average weight overall, with large breasts and a bottom-heavy stature. As an ethereal, her body has a gelatinous quality to it and its opacity varies. Her arms taper into thick paws that can unsheathe long, glassy claws. From the waist down, her body tapers into a tail. In coloured renders, she is a series of blues. Her eyes are white and she radiates a light blue glow.

• Crystin consistently shows her eyes around characters she trusts, such as Edgar and Clifford.
• Crystin shows signs of selective mutism, as indicated by her near-constant refusal to speak to new characters.
• Crystin wags her tail when she’s happy or flustered.
• She and Edgar, as revealed by the latter in “Too Long”, copulate “constantly”.
